Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween y'all! Its one of my favorite holidays of the year. Tomorrow I'll post a pic of me and Sev's somewhat last-minute costumes. We're going as two of our favorite TV ads. I always like to try to go as something funny, versus the typical options for females. Let's face it, we've all been a slutty (fill in the blank) for one halloween or another.

And you have to check out my adorable niece's costume: A four year-old as Holly Golightly. She kills it! Nice work Ella!

Thanks to her mom Ashley for sharing!

Photo Wall

Last weekend Sev and I finally got around to creating the photo wall that's been on our to-do list since we moved in to our new place. In June. I have to admit, the task seemed a little daunting. We had the frames and many of the photos ready, but the layout was what scared me the most. Its easy to make it look cluttered and messy and I did not want to have it up it unless it was perfect.

The wall was surprisingly simple to construct, and although we laid out a rough guideline on the floor beforehand, we found it easiest to construct the layout as we went, focusing mainly the right side border along the stairs and the largest of the frames in the middle. If it looks thrown up, it definitely isn't! A lot of thought went into how far apart they should be from one another and whether or not the lines should match up (most the time we elected "not"). I also think adding the shelves helped keep it from looking too contrived. And in my opinion, the frames don't have to be the same. Keeping everything black allowed us to mix and match frames we already owned. Some are nice Pottery Barn and West Elm pieces, but most are Ikea and Target purchases collected over the years.

Its not complete yet. We hope to print some new/better photos soon and we would like to continue it on the left side as well. Stay tuned!

I didn't realize how bare it made our space looked until we filled it with something!

Aruba and Curacao

Sev and I enjoyed four days in Aruba and two in Curacao last week. (Which explains my lack of posts lately...sorry!) We both needed a nice little vacay after a busy and stressful August and September. We went down for Sev's friends wedding (he was in it, and I photographed it). Both are beautiful islands, and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a little get-away, and even though it was the "off" season for vacationing, I welcomed the low prices, semi-cloudy days and less crowded beaches.
Here are a few photos from the week. More pics of the wedding to come!

 Curacao!
I fell in LOVE with the Dutch-inspired buildings in Wilemstad

Obligatory Jump pic. The locals thought we were nuts.

Julia's Having a Moment

Julia Child seems to be everywhere these days. I keep seeing hers likeness and sayings and recipes on pinterest and blogs and a few weeks ago a friend introduced me to this hilarious PBS-produced "Julia Child Remixed" meme. She must still be riding the Julie/Julia movie wave from a few years ago. Either way, I adore her...and her cooking philosophy. Here's some of my favorite internet Julia spottings:

Annie and Jeff

A few weeks ago I got the opportunity to shoot Annie and Jeff's wedding at Lyon's Farmette, north of Boulder. It was a beautiful fall afternoon, full of emotion, love and plenty of handmade, personalized touches. The venue is actually a working farm, complete with chickens, goats, lots of open spaces and not one, but two airstream trailers for the bride and groom. Annie, an avid crafter, put her creative touch on everything. She even collected each of the dinner plates from thrift and antique stores and people were allowed to take them home as a parting gift. And why serve cake when you can bring an ice-cream truck in to feed the party! Congrats you two and thanks for letting me be a part of your day!
